Dr. McKelvy has been caring for Whidbey Island pets since graduating with honors from Washington State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She brings her extensive expertise and compassionate care to every patient, supporting the human-pet bond by keeping pets healthy and comfortable for as long as possible. She educates pet parents and offers them options to best support their pets’ well-being.

Outside her professional life, Dr. McKelvy and her husband have a small farm with horses, sheep, chickens, cats, and dogs. She has a particular love for herding dog breeds and has competed in sheep herding trials with her Australian Kelpies. Lately, she has spent more time gardening, hiking, and fishing with her husband. Dr. McKelvy also enjoys creating watercolor and graphite pencil portraits of people and animals.

Julie Cathey, LVT, has been faithfully and lovingly caring for Whidbey Island pets since starting as a veterinary assistant in 2001. Recognizing her passion early on, she pursued specialized training and achieved licensure in the field in 2011. As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, her role in pet health care expanded to duties similar to nurses in human healthcare—administering treatments, assisting in surgery, administering anesthesia, and performing medical tests to diagnose illnesses. These advanced skills make her an indispensable asset to the Care Vet team.
Julie is known for her positive and supportive attitude, which makes her a comforting presence for both pets and their owners. Her caring nature shines through in every interaction, ensuring that every patient feels loved and well-cared for.
In her free time, Julie loves going on walks with her dogs and riding the open roads with her husband on their motorcycles.
